After the sunset at 9:00 PM, the runners start on a seven-kilometre course around the lake. The reason for this is not solely for a good time, and a good cause, but also to enjoy the extraordinary experience of running through a 200 m long torch path which leads to the finish line. More and more participants join each year as a result.
The earnings from the Moonlight Run serve primarily to maintain an illuminated training path which leads around the lake for the dark times of the year. Anybody who participates in the competition thereby automatically contributes to keeping the lights on in the evening. The route has now been equipped with 26 lights so far.
