Municipal Museum

Museum and the City

The Municipal Museum next tot he town hall has been undergoing renovation since autumn 2023 in order to adapt the museum to current requirements and create a new cultural focus. After the renovation, it will be possible for the first time to place the collection of the Municipal Museum more centre stage and make it accessible to visitors.

It preserves an important collection of late medieval and early modern panel painting by Lower Rhine and Cologne masters and Wesel silver. In the 1960s, the museum's collection was supplemented by parts of the well-known art collection of Kasimir Hagen from Cologne, which included works from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. From the 1970s onwards, a further focus was placed on the acquisition of works by 19th and 20th century artists from the Lower Rhine.

In the meantime, the museum will continue to be visible and active temporarily in a new location in the pedestrian zone (Brückstr. 7) as "Museum and the City", e.g. with a museum shop and workshops.
